Welcome to Memoirs and Maybe's!
Hi, my name is Lucy (or Luce to my friends), and I am 25 years old and from Warwickshire in the UK. Welcome to my blog! This is far from the first blog I have had; however, I have a bad habit of forgetting that they exist and starting a new one, much like what I do with most notebooks and journals. I'm hoping that I don't forget this time... I have been blogging since I was 11 years old and writing for even longer than that.
I have a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing and would love nothing more than to write a book someday, but for now, I am settling for sharing my work in this way. I have been writing creatively for as long as I can remember. But my very first memory of my writing being acknowledged was when I was 6 years old and I wrote a nature poem as part of an assignment at school. I vividly remember getting feedback for that piece of work and feeling my stomach flutter in response to the praise I received for it. I remember my mum telling me that she couldn't believe I had actually written it and that I used words she wasn't aware I even knew existed—that's not all that surprising, honestly, since I absolutely adored reading and learned the majority of my words that way. That was the first time I thought that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life…
My favourite genre of writing is nonfiction, particularly life writing, hence why a blog is perfect. However, I also write a lot of poetry. I have always found expressing myself through writing significantly easier than talking. Writing about the constant mess of thoughts and feelings swirling around my head allows me to untangle and digest those thoughts in a way I am simply incapable of doing through speech. So you may find, much like a diary, a smattering of deeper or darker posts—those posts will always feature a warning! While I do write fiction as well, I imagine posts of that nature will likely be few and far between—there will be a nice variety, and I hope you enjoy that.
As well as freelance writing, I am the owner of a small business called Spoons N Stripes where I primarily design and create aids for those with communication difficulties. I absolutely adore my business as it plays into my love for graphic design and enables me to help people all while having complete creative control and independence. I am also neurodivergent and disabled and run Instagram & TikTok accounts dedicated to awareness and advocacy. I am an advocate for mental health, recovery, accessibility, and disability in general.
